Overview

Connected Home & Vehicle Ecosystem UX for LG ThinQ

Connected Home & Vehicle Ecosystem UX for LG ThinQ

To create a family-centered smart home experience within the LG ThinQ app, used in over 154 countries, I led UX research, UI planning, and user testing focused on multi-generational households. Collaborating with internal teams, I enhanced control systems, AI voice recognition, and multilingual support to ensure safe, intuitive, and connected interactions for all family members. As a result, daily active users increased by 43%, setup time decreased by 67%, device communication improved by 58%, energy savings reached 24%, and international retention rose by 51%.

Challenge

Challenge

How might we extend the LG ThinQ smart home experience to include vehicles—creating a unified ecosystem where users can manage their home, energy, and safety even while on the move?

Objective
Objective
Objective

Develop a connected UX framework that synchronizes home and vehicle environments through the ThinQ platform. Enable multimodal interaction (voice, touch, and automation) for managing appliances, EV charging, and security systems from both in-car and at-home contexts.

Ensure safety, energy efficiency, and continuity of experience by designing predictive and context-aware handoff between home and vehicle.

Result

Created a cohesive cross-device experience linking home and vehicle through AI-powered control and data synchronization.
The solution reduced setup friction by 64 percent, improved remote responsiveness by 48 percent, and established the foundation for LG’s connected mobility strategy showcased at global exhibitions such as CES.

Research

A user survey was conducted on families with children in the U.S.

and multigenerational households, including townhouses in

California, where advanced smart homes and smart appliances

are fully installed.

Planned and designed all scenarios and voice commands for Google-connected LG appliances, developed by the LG
engineering team and integrated with Google AI.

As a result, the survey yielded a variety of meaningful insights.
